The picture 'Gareth and Dame Lineth'

A scene from 'Sir Gareth and the Red Knight', Book VII of Caxton's publication of Sir Thomas Malory's 'Le Morte d'Arthur'.

Francoise Taylor's picture shows Damosel Linet bringing Arthur's youngest knight Beaumains (or "Fair-Hands") - secretly Sir Gareth, the Orkney Knight - to Castle Perilous by the sea to set free Linet's sister, Dame Lionesse; Gareth challenges her abductor, Sir Ironside the Red Knight of the Red Launds, to leave his castle, by blowing an elephant horn - Malory seemed not to realise that elephants have tusks, not horns.
